Washington D.C. Experience 2018!

On November 7th, ninth graders from Global Experience Magnet School departed for Washington D.C. Students had worked for almost a month before the trip to gain a better understanding of the sites they were going to visit, the role of propaganda in historical events, and the separation of powers within our country’s branches of government. The students were eager to put their learning into action, as they were required to create their own goals regarding the trip’s essential questions. They started their first day with a trip to the Natural History Museum, then toured the Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Korean War Memorial.

Day Two:

Students had the opportunity to explore many wonderful monuments and museums. They started their day by exploring the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. They were able to hear directly from a Holocaust survivor. In the afternoon, they visited the Arlington National Cemetery where they experience the Changing of the Guards.  They finished their day with a historical Ghost Tour in Alexandria.

Day Three:

Students started their third day exploring the National Zoo. After the National Zoo, they explored the Newseum. Students learned about the creation of news and were able to view headline stories from the past. A few brave students explored the views from the top terrace which offered a panoramic view of Pennsylvania Ave. After lunch, students had an amazing experience exploring the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture

Day Four:

The students explored the Library of Congress, stopped at the U.S. Supreme Court and toured the U.S. Capitol Building and Visitor Center all before heading home.
