We recognized milestone years of service, retirees, Teachers of the Year, and our inaugural Paraeducators of the Year and Extraordinary Service Award recipients.
Thank you to all of our honorees for your commitment, passion, and service to the Bloomfield community. Special thanks to our JROTC Cadets, student performers, the Vo-Ag Center, and our Food Services Department for helping make this celebration so memorable. We would like to inform you of an incident that occurred at dismissal today involving several middle school students who were handling a powdery substance contained in a clear capsule found in a classroom. School and district staff immediately responded and investigated the situation. The substance was identified as malic acid, a non-toxic material from our science kits. As a precaution, we contacted Poison Control, who confirmed that the substance is non-toxic. They advised that anyone who came into contact with it wash their hands thoroughly with warm, soapy water. Poison Control also indicated that, if ingested or touched, malic acid could cause mild irritation. We encourage families to contact their child's medical provider with any further questions or concerns.
The school has taken safety measures to prevent this from happening again in the future. Additionally, we will be following up with middle school students and staff tomorrow to further enforce the safety precautions in place.
Thank you for your partnership as we continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our students.

Starting tomorrow students in grades 7 and 8 will begin the State of CT's annual testing called Smarter Balanced Assessments. Students will be taking assessments for both math and ela this week. If a student is absent or arrives late, they will make up their assessments upon return. We ask that students arrive on time with charged chromebooks ready for testing. We appreciate your support in helping your child to be prepared each day by getting a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast ready to do their best.
Student belongings such as phones, smartwatches, backpacks, etc will not be allowed in test rooms. Students must leave all belongings in their lockers for the duration of testing. Disruptions may result in the removal from the testing environment and may have impact on your student's testing results. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me.
