October is National Principals Month - Bloomfield Public Schools celebrates the crucial leadership role principals play in directing our schools and shaping the future of our children. Kudos to Dr. Frank Macchi, Global Experience Magnet School; Jesse White, Bloomfield High School, Dr. Trevor Ellis, Carmen Arace Middle School, Sarah Williams, Carmen Arace Intermediate School, Paul Guzzo, Metacomet Elementary School; Jennifer Dwyer, Laurel Literacy Academy; Samantha Straker, Wintonbury Early Childhood Magnet School.


Notice all Bloomfield families: The Back-to-School event – 2023 Extravaganza Day- postponed a few weeks ago has been rescheduled to Sunday, Oct. 8, from noon to 4 p.m., at the Rockwell Green, located on Rockwell Drive. Book bags and supplies will be available for free. There will also be games, entertainment food and ice cream.


Laurel Literacy Academy students showcased Mexican hat-dancing skills this week in tribute to Hispanic Heritage Month. , which ends Oct. 15. District students have been learning about the contributions, cultures and rich histories of Americans whose ancestors were reared in Spanish- speaking countries. This year's theme is "Driving Prosperity, Power and Progress in America.”



Laurel Literacy Academy was officially christened today, with students, staff and town education leaders in attendance, at a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the gym.
The former Laurel Elementary School’s new name is is reflective of the intensive work being done over the past couple of years in reading, writing, comprehension, speaking and problem-solving at Laurel.




On Tuesday, Oct. 3, the district is hosting a ribbon-cutting to commemorate the renaming of Laurel Elementary School to Laurel Literacy Academy. See Dr. Thompson's Weekly Update for more details

For those in our community of the Jewish faith, Bloomfield Public Schools wishes you a good holy day in observance of Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement.

Here are the head shots of the five Bloomfield High students recognized by the College Board for their academic prowess on standardized tests and in the classroom. The Board's National Recognition Program identifies high-achieving sophomores and juniors from underserved communities across the country. It is an accomplishment viewed favorably by colleges and universities when receiving college applications. In addition to highlighting that a student has done well on standardized testing, the Board’s recognition also indicates the student carries a grade-point average of at-least 3.5 at their school. Welcome Kimberly Dunbar - the newest member of the Bloomfield Board of Education. She replaces Joseph Wilkerson, Jr, who moved out of town. Ms. Dunbar is an Associate Retirement Benefits Officer for the Office of The State Comptroller. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications from Eastern Connecticut State University. She and her husband have lived in town for more than 15 years and have two school-aged children.
